Hi all
Judging by recent forum posts we have a large number of members' taking part in the 70.3 Dublin again this year which is great to see. With this in mind we have organised an official club recon of the bike and run route for Saturday 2 July at 8:30am from the Papal Cross car park in the Phoenix Park. This will be led by Rob Yeomans and is open to all club members'. It is not possible to take in the full bike route as the official bike route starts in Dun Laoighaire & makes it's way up the coast road and along the northside of the Quays - so hence the Phoenix Park Start.
Plan is to do a run off the bike in the form of 1/2 laps of the run route straight after.
On Friday 1 July we plan to hold an informal Q&A / discussion session between those taking on Dublin 70.3 for the first time & those who competed last year. It's really an opportunity to share experiences on what worked well and not so well with the aim to help make planning for and participating in the race as smooth and efficient as possible.I will confirm time and venue in the coming weeks but it is likely to be circa 8pm in the Rathfarnham Club House.
There isnt much to gain by swimming the swim course in advance as it is difficult to take in the full course without the aid of buoys and a full support crew, there are rocks in the water around the swim exit area making it difficult to navigate without course markers. I would encourage anyone taking part to get into the water around Sandycove and at the 40 foot which is the swim start area & familiarise yourself with the layout of the starting location. The area is more susceptible to currents than Seapoint, we can cover this at the talk on 1 July.
So please post up below if you plan to come along to one or both of the above. Also looking to last years racers who would like to share their experiences!
