Belpark's New-to-Tri Program is back!

Belpark's NEW TO TRI program is back for a second year!

The program is open to all those who are interested in completing their first triathlon in 2017 – no need to be nervous or worried, we’ll get you to the start and finish line! The program is aimed at men and women aged 18+ who have never done a triathlon before.

The training program is also available for Belpark members as well as members from other clubs in the Dublin area.

WHAT IS IN THE PROGRAM

The program begins on Saturday 4th February with our ‘Introduction to Triathlon’ at 10:00am in Ballymount.

Weekly coached sessions as well as this a training program for additional sessions will be provided to ensure you build and improve on your fitness as the weeks progress.

The coached sessions will include:

- Terenure swim session – either Tues morn at 8am or Wed evening at 8:15pm* with the first of these on Tues 7th/Wed 8th February *(limited spaces on Wed eve)
- Thursday evening run session
- Weekend bike or run session. These will start at 9am or 10am, depending on the session. The sessions are planned as follows:
        
            Sat 4th February Intro to Tri in Ballymount
            Sat 11th February Bike handling, group cycling etc. in Ballymount
            Sun 19th February Bike Spin (Rathfarnham)
            Sun 26th February Bike Spin (Rathfarnham)
            Sun 5th March Bike Spin (Rathfarnham)
            Sat 11th March Corkagh Park, brick session
            Sun 19th March Bike Spin (Rathfarnham)
            Sat 25th March Bike + run session (Rathfarnham)
            Sun 2nd April Bike Spin (Rathfarnham)
            Sat 15th April Race briefing, Q&A, transition set up etc. – Shoreline, Greystones
            Mon 17th April Try-a-Tri race, 400m swim, 12k cycle, 3k run

The final test will be a ‘Try-a-Tri’ race starting in the Shoreline Pool in Greystones, before you officially become a TRIATHLETE.

This is great value at just €80* for the 10 weeks, including the final race.

*All participants must also have 2017 membership of Triathlon Ireland, a basic non-race licence is required at minimum, at a cost of €20. This can be purchased via the Triathlon Ireland website. For any queries in relation to this please email [e-mail]

EQUIPMENT NEEDED

Swim: swimming togs, goggles, hat
Cycle: basic bike - racer/road bike (preferred), hybrid or mountain. Helmet, you will not be allowed to train or race without one.
Run: runners

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS

Must have a basic level of swim ability, i.e. must be able to swim a length of a 25m pool without stopping
Membership of Triathlon Ireland – non-race licence

Hey there,

So we've launched the New to Tri Program for 2017, which kicks off on Feb 4th.

The 10 week program is open to both members and non members so we'd really appreciate it if you all could help out with spreading the word

I have a poster to promote the program (which is too big to post here!) - if anyone has a notice board at work that they can put it up on, or their local gym/bike shop/swimming pool etc...., please let me know and I can email it to you to print - just drop me an email [e-mail]

Belpark relies on it's members to volunteer and help out throughout the year so please keep Monday 17th April in mind as we will need lots of club members to volunteer to make the New to Tri race a safe and enjoyable event for all.

Hi is there any any possibility that as a new member i might be able to take part in the
‘Try-a-Tri’ race on the afternoon of Monday, 17th of April the one starting in the Shoreline Pool in Greystones please? I didn't sign up for the program as i wouldn't have been able to attend all of the sessions and would most likely have denied someone else a place on it.

I realise the program has been very popular but it would be great if i could get a Try-a-Tri in before the couple of sprints I've signed up for over the Summer.

It would also be great to meet a few other members especially the newbies like me.

Hi Andrew,

Unfortunately we've limited the race to participants of the New to Tri program but if there's any change I'll get in touch.

We will have both brick/transition and open water sessions for our new members in advance of race season so this will be a good chance to meet others in the same boat!

Also the Carlow Sprint Tri is always popular with new members so if this suits you should definitely sign up

It's been great to train with the new to tri group a few times over the past few months on the bike and see their progress. Last Sunday we went to Bray, with coffee stop included on the prom. I wanted to share this article from a Cat 1 athlete from Waterford, Eoin Lyons - he was a swimmer who converted late in life (i.e. his 20s) to triathlon. TRANSITION PRACTICE - today about 15 new to tri & juniors took part in a bike/run transition session in Nutgrove. Great strides were made in clipping helmets, jumping on bikes, pushing bikes from the saddle, dismounting into a run and getting your running legs going. Everyone improved their speed, confidence and technique. We also practised group cycling, wheel to wheel and elbow to elbow (literally). I'll leave you with a few resources:

Hi All,

Just a reminder that our New to Tri race is on Easter Monday, 17th April and we really need marshalls to help out to make it a successful and safe event.

We have a great gang in the New to Tri group and they've been working away since the start of February on building their skills and fitness and are excited about the challenge!!

We will need marshals to be at the Shoreline in Greystones at 1pm, with the race kicking off at 2pm. (we will need people until at least 3:30/4pm)

There is the option to have breakfast/coffee in the Happy Pear cafe in Shoreline for those that want to come earlier - I'll be there from 11am for set up etc.
