Hi All,
The feedback from the members survey showed that a lot of you are interested in some bike maintenance classes. We intend to run 3 over the course of the Winter / spring.
They will start very basic and hopefully build to something a little more complex. It will focus on day to day maintenance to keep you bike in good condition.
These classes will be approx. 90mins and on a Wednesday
Can anyone interested please comment below, we are very keen to hear what in particular you would like to learn about. Please don’t be shy about telling us what you would like covered no matter how seemingly simple i.e fixing a puncture or how to properly clean your bike.
Comment below or email mens.captain@belparktri.ie

i’m comfortable with fixing punctures, changing tubes and cleaning my *precious*. i could do with hand-holding on tweaking brakes’n’gears and would like to see what links going in-and-out of the chain involves. breaking down the bike for packing in a box would be good. you could probably charge a premium to your hostages on how to reassemble at going home time....

I've changed about two dozen punctures since moving to Ireland, so no problem there. Sigh.
Like Ian said, I wouldn't mind learning how to prep my bike for travel and how to reassemble it afterwards. Maybe also a quick review on the 'right' way to clean the chain and gears, which can get quite mucky from winter cycling/cycling in the rain.
From speaking with a few members over the last few years, especially ones who are not from a cycling background, there should definitely be a class that provides the basics ... even how to pump a tyre! This way most people would at least have the basics, and it sounds like you're planning on doing this.
Overall, I think what you plan to cover is exactly what I need, so I'd be there if the courses end up being offered.
Cheers!

Great idea. A few ideas: 1. How to properly clean your bike 2. How to adjust brake calipers/pads 3. How to replace a chain 4. How to adjust a headset 5. How not to do any fiddling the night before a race

Count me in Ben. I'll come to them all, cos there's always room for learning the right way to do the basics, but my main focus would be on tweaking gears and brakes, chain and cassette replacement and general maintenance tips

Hi Ben, great idea.
I’m interested in attending thanks & maybe add to list of suggested topics given above
How to fix loose brake cables & how often should these be tweaked / replaced entirely.
How to replace break pads.
Correct tyre pressure in dry vs wet weather conditions, affect summer (hot days) vs cooler days has on tyre pressure.
What items should each person have in their puncture repair kit for the Belpark group spins :-)
