Dear members, This week's spin will be led by John Finegan. Distances for this spin are usually 80-90km and route this week will be /Celbridge/Kilcock /Summerhill which is 90km but relatively flat. Route may be changed in the case of adverse weather conditions. Depart from Rathfarnham clubhouse at 9am. Can all those who are coming out please post on this forum so that we can gauge numbers and assign leaders accordingly. If the group is large we will split into smaller groups. For those who want to do a shorter spin, please ensure you know the 60km shorter route (Celbridge/Maynooth/Phoenix Park). More experienced riders should join Group 1. Members attending their first club spin should be in Group 2 unless they have cycled in a group before and confident that they will be able to keep up. Group 2 should be where members learn the required skills and good cycling etiquette at slower speed. Group 1 average pace 25-26 kph Group 2 average pace 22-24 kph. If you are unsure whether you would be ok at either of these paces over a 60-80km distance, I would recommend going on beginner spin on Saturdays. Can all those attending club spins familarise themselves with group spin etiquette www.belparktri.ie/2015/02/cycling-etiquette/Many thanks Helen

I'm alright and already back home. Unfortunately, my rear derailleur is badly bent but I hope I can get this fixed pretty quick. I thought it was just me going too fast on this roundabout, but another guy did the same thing, in the same spot, 15 mins after me, I regret I didn't warn him now ;/
I hope people enjoyed the rest of the ride today.

Good to hear you got home safe Luka. Declan and I had a little wobble ourselves. Certainly raised my HR! Hope that those that did the longer cycle got home ok?! Wrong turn off, but sure that's half the adventure isn't it? Least we had nice weather and great company. Two things to note for those long spins, 1) bring at least 2 bottles with some electrolyte in them especially for 2-3hr cycles along with some snacks. 2) It's all about Cadence. Cycling those big gears especially on long cycles, will cause you to suffer more than those in the group in a lower gear but at a higher cadence. 90rpm - 100rpm is a great start which will flush any lactic acid from the legs on those spins. Safe cycling and see ye all soon.
