Great read in today's Irish Times Health supplement on the 2 IT journalists who completed the swim for a mile. Anybody fearful of swimming 750m or 1500m should read this - it can be done!! Just keep training and you'll improve so fast :-) www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/get-swimming‘This challenge hasn’t been easy . . . but I can’t recommend it enough’ Rachel Collins ‘A mile is a very long way to travel when you have no jet pack ... and you are in a pool’ Malachy Clerkin

Good article. I did the swim for a mile challenge this year (after being encouraged by Hana and Sue), and even for more experienced swimmers it was a fun event to take part in. It kept me motivated to get to the pool in the lead-up to the swim (I did mine on April 1st). My only gripe, and it's entirely my own fault, is that my official time is five minutes slower than the my actual time for the swim. Lesson learned: don't show up LATE for the event!!! Arg!
Highly recommend it and I'd do it again next year. Super well organised with laps getting counted for each swimmer (no Garmin needed), a goodie bag at the end, and some really nice people both participants & organisers. It was also a good opportunity to fundraise for a local charity.
