In case you were not already aware two club members have pitted them selves a very daunting challenge... Nikki Dorey and Lisa Jacob have undertaken a huge challenge to compete in the Race around Ireland and cycle 2,200kms in under 132 continuous hours (5.5 days) and to try raise €100,000 for the charity Suicide or Survive.
To help them reach their fundraising target and raise awareness of the SOS charity work, Ellen Murphy is organising a swim at Killiney Beach at 3pm, followed by tea/coffe/cake at the nearby Rathdown school at 4pm. There will be several different swim distances (2km, 1km, 500m) & as it is a "socialathlon", we will time the starts so that regardless of distance, swimmers should meet at last buoy & finish at same time. There will be showers available at school.
This is an informal event, not affiliated to any particular club and all welcome including family & friends. You can come just for coffee & cake if you don’t fancy the swim part or vice-a- versa, and all swimmers & cake eaters are taking part at own risk.
We will be collecting voluntary donations on the day or you can donate online at cycle-around-ireland.everydayhero.com/ie/nikki-dorey-and-lisa-jacob .
Nikki & Lisa will be on hand to chat about their training & race goals and to raise awareness about the important work of SOS charity they are fundraising for. All money raised will go directly to the charity.
Please let us know if you are attending so that we can plan adquate cake supplies & post below if you have any queries.
Suggested minimum donation: 15e or bring baked goodiesKilliney Beach @ 3pm on Sunday August 7th www.facebook.com/events/275177122854289/282440365461298/?notif_t=admin_plan_mall_activity¬if_id=1470155895660455So although this is by not a club event we would encourage all members to attend and donate what they can. There will be no official club swim on Sunday in Seapoint to facilitate this great event. ....2,200km, non stop, night and day....

Hi All, We raised a brilliant 550e & overwhelming support for the event from Belpark members. Thanks so much everyone for their very generous donations & wonderful baking skills. If anyone missed the event and wants to make a donation - link is here: cycle-around-ireland.everydayhero.com/ie/nikki-dorey-and-lisa-jacobSee also a lovely note from Nikki - which explains how much herself and Lisa appreciated the support "Hi all... Firstly - OMG you guys are the best bakers ever!!! (Has anyone got pics of the cakes? I was too busy talking and eating to take any) Secondly - I genuinely cannot tell you how much we appreciate everyone coming out to support us. I am quite overwhelmed by the very kind words and the immense support from everyone. I actually started my day on a bit of a downer after a training session didn't go as planned (as Ellen Murphy will vouch for because I was a grumpy bugger when I picked her up) and now I am just so unbelievably humbled and slightly lost for words by the whole afternoon. As much as the money you all very kindly donated was unbelievable, for both Lisa and myself, the support and encouragement has really meant the world. You are all amazing, really. I know Lisa and I will be pedalling around the country but I mean it when I say that it is the support of our friends and family that will be the reason we get through it. I can't tell you how much we appreciate it all."

Hi Ellen,
many thanks for organising this, the swim was just great fun and the Cakes have to agree with Nikki there, they were amazing. I think everyone of us who is doing any type of training and is shuffling around work / Training / life can appreciate what Lisa and Nikki are under taking, it is a huge goal and they certainly putting the effort and work into it and secondly and maybe more importantly they are doing it for an amazing cause. With that I would like to wish them all the best and I hope that maybe some Belparkers can cheer the Girls on at the start / stages or finish line and one last request I REALLY would like to see a Race / Training Report on this when it is finished ;o))
