Hey guys,
After toying with the idea of a sweat test for a while as I tend to look like I have had a shower with my gear on after any longer session I got in touch with George Sherwood from Peak Sports Performance a few weeks ago. George is a triathlete himself and not a bad one, I met him at the ETU middle distance in Austria last year and has qualified for the IM 70.3 worlds in both Tennessee (just gone) and South Africa in 2018. Most importantly he is sound.
What does the sweat test entail? Basically George puts 2 electrodes on your arm to stimulate sweat production which then gets sucked up by a capillary device and put through an analyser. The test takes about 20-30 minutes between the stimulation and capillary filling. The analyser measures the amount of sodium in the sweat and returns a figure that then via the main online systen gets converted into concentration and based on that they can determine what type of supplements to take before and or during training and racing - the precision hydration stuff. My sodium was low compared to standard but that of my running partner was double that of mine. He always finishes with salt crusts while I look like a I just had a shower. Anyway, interesting, I think for people that do longer stuff def worth the investment and if you get a group he may give you a group discount and even travel up to Dublin (He's based in Kilkenny). He is peak sport performance on Facebook and will be at the marathon expo also...with the free online test (its him who is representing precision hydration there). I asked him how accurate the online was and he said that for him it was completely different! Anyway - worth considering for some of you? Marijke
