Hello all,
In case you have not heard, we have a great new initiative with the club training plans. This year, the plans will be available only on TrainingPeaks. It's a major step up from the excel sheets of last year and you will be able to see tons of information on your progress throughout the year.
For those of you who aren't aware of it, TrainingPeaks allows you to see training laid out in calendar format, upload your data to view and also add/modify sessions as required and add your own comments after training session. You can also record data like sleep & fatigue levels and get weekly training stress scores. Over time, this data is absolute gold dust & you can see patterns emerge in your fitness and your fatigue levels. You will need a premium account for a lot of the features, but Triathlon Ireland do a discount of 20% for their members so it works out at roughly €80 per year. You should also get a free month when you sign up on the TP site so you can try it out before deciding to buy.
There is also a free version where you can just get the plans with a few less of the data screens - this will be absolutely fine if you are new enough to the sport and just want to do the sessions. Our coach, John Caffrey, has done great work in ensuring the plans are easy to access and use with minimum fuss at the start of every month and our run coach, Emmet, has again done great work in setting up run sessions that will have everyone running better very quickly.
**All you have to do to access the plans is join up for 2018 and we will send a link and a user guide at the end of every week.**
As usual, all questions and suggestions to training@belparktri.ie
Thanks,
Conal

Good stuff Conal, TrainingPeaks is a great tool to keep a training diary and monitor progress in training and recovery. And available as app too!

Training Peaks is a great app to have on your phone, easy to see what's on the plan and great to see your workout data after a sessions.
Works great with any of the Garmin devices.

Ditto on having the app on your phone. Its great. Training Peaks offers a vast amount of data, especially if you opt for a premium account. I'd recommend that you don't get bogged down with the data unless you really are a data and numbers junky. And in terms of data rembember that no matter how good training peaks is at tracking your fitness and fatigue it cannot measure and take into account outside stresses from family, work, travel etc. etc. these all have effects on your training so still very important to be self aware! I've dug out some podcasts that will help you better understand the advantages of a structured training plans and also getting into a bit of detail on understanding the TP data. Podcast 1: traffic.libsyn.com/fitterradio/Fitter_Radio_Episode_159.mp3?dest-id=192618Go to 15mins This is a really great listen for all levels. This one is on consistency and training plans and how to balance frequency, duration and intensity based on your level. Podcast 2: traffic.libsyn.com/fitterradio/Fitter_Radio_Episode_163.mp3?dest-id=192618Go to 28mins. This is more detailed and advanced. It talks about the training peaks metrics taken from the TSS score including CTL and ATL which Training Peaks use to determine your fitness, your fatigue and your form. This is worth a listen, it is very interesting however if you are new to it it will require a lot of help from someone with experience or further reading to really grasp a proper understanding of it. Podcast 3: traffic.libsyn.com/fitterradio/Fitter_Radio_Episode_164.mp3?dest-id=192618Go to 18mins. This one is quite advanced, way over my head but it goes into how to plan a season around a predetermined level of fitness. Would only get into this if your really on top of your numbers. It's interesting from the point of view of what you can achieve if you really know your stuff put probably not applicable to 99.9% of Belpark members.
