We have a large number of Belparkers who opted for the TI and Swim Ireland Joint race licence – looks like there’ll be some competition for those sea swimmers! Belpark are an affiliated club which means you can race under Belpark in any of the OW swim races. The full calendar for the 2018 Leinster Open Sea events can be found here: www.leinsteropensea.ie/calendar/Please note that you must register for a race number in advance of any of the races – see the link below for details. www.howdidyouswim.com Post below if you’re going along to any of the events............... happy swimming .

Several club members have done the Leinster OW sea swims this year and it's been a real pleasure. Highlights being Marijke winning in Malahide, as well as lovely warm & calm sea waters over the past month. If you signed up but haven't raced yet - there's lots of races left (2-3 each weekend). Ask anyone who's done them - Marijke, Mairead Cashman, Niall Murphy, Brendan Murphy or myself. I've swam in the mouth of the Liffey, Wicklow town, Portmarnock and Malahide beaches. It only takes a few hours of your day, so easy to do if you're stuck for time. All races about 1600m long.

I have read that and they dont sound too favorable towards wetsuits. With the men’s race out first, do they report back on the jelly’s for the ladies race to decide whether they will get in, ginny-pigs if you like?

Jellies are rare - my first time getting stung yesterday in over 12 races in 2 years. Yep men are the guinea-pigs, so the women can decide :-) The races are friendly - only way is to give it a go, you won't regret it.

Yes. I’ve really enjoyed these events. Spoiled with the weather and sea temps this year so skins swimming isn’t any hardship. If you’re nervous about swimming without a wetsuit maybe give it a try at one of the club open water sessions. A big benefit of the open water races for me has been in improved open water skills - sighting, awareness of tides, currents, negotiating buoys etc. These skills fall into the category of free speed like transition skills. You don’t need additional fitness to sight but if you do it and swim in a straight line your swim time will be faster.
