Hi, this evening in the PP, when moving from the run to cycling can I put my bike shoes on at the bike in the transition area and run out of transition with the shoes on and also when entering the transition area to drop off the bike can I run into this area with the bike shoes on?

Hi Philip, You can indeed and most people run through in bike shoes for their first few races. This is what I would recommend you do for tonights race. Ultimately though the quickest way through transition is to have bike shoes clipped in on bike and run through in bare feet, and then also to remove feet from bike shoes as you approach transition line on return. You need to practice this a few times before trying in a race, and Coach Phil Smith will give a demonstration if you ever attend any of the Thursday brick sessions in Phoenix Park. Liam Dunne has also prepared detailed notes on perfecting transitions. There are available on members section of website - email belparksecretary@gmail.com for password if you dont already have it. Best of luck tonight, Ellen

When I did the Duathlon 4 weeks ago I did not practice transition before the race at all. Since I did not want to run in my cycling shoes, I just changed the pedals before the race and cycled in my runners. It's just 12K and I did not need to worry about the transition. After the race I did the transition training with Liam and it is surprisingly easy with the shoes on the bike but this is something I didn't want to try that in a race without practice.

If you haven't practiced the flying mount it can go quite badly wrong...
Running out in your bike shoes probably only loses you about 20 secs, which is really nothing at all.

Think I'll stick to running in the bike shoes after watching that!

And I was actually thinking of trying to do this fairly soon. Think I might stick to just wasting the time putting on the shoes in T1.

Saw the video alright. Looks like lot of people trying to mount the bike for the first time. The surprising thing, was there were so many who could not do it.
