So looking for some advice. Never been a winter cyclist and preferred the turbo during the winter. Need to change this so looking at advice on winter cycling gear. I have none so am looking for recommendations on what to get and if people have personal experience of items.
Any advice would be helpful as the saying goes "There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes"

Hi Keith, for me personally quite often a simple fleece Jacket from lidl or aldi did do the Job, saying that I also have a Belpark Winter Jacket which I keep for the really cold days. My Problem is always my feet, I have fixed that with wearing 2 pairs over overshoes one fleece and one Neoprene. That leaves just the times when it might rain, beside making sure that my gloves are REALLY Water proof I have this Year very high hopes for a new water proof cycling Jersey, which we should get via our new Gear supplier Guy. We should be able to see a sample of it this Saturday at the AGM.I hate rain jackets, so if that works I would be more than happy and a good pair of bib pants and you should be sorted .That's me cycling through the Winter

Embrace the winter bib tights Keith, over shoes essential but also thick socks - sometimes two pairs if you can squeeze them on. I like to use a thermal base layer on really cold days with a warm jacket and jersey too. I learned on a REALLY wet Sunday morning cycling around Wicklow that only the fairly pricey gear seems to be the most waterproof / coldproof! Soaked through three layers, "waterproof" glooves from Great Outdoors let me down very badly that day too. My general experience is that if its bucketing down its worth having a good quality waterproof jacket, very cold then layer up (glooves essential). Treat yourself to some nice Castelli clothes from Pro Bike Kit - I see the pocket liner jacket is on offer at €300!

hi Mark, apparently our new Vendor has something very similar to the Castelli Gabba, really look forward to see it tomorrow , the long sleeve Jersey is 135 Euro's which is a really good price if it does the same Job as the Gabba : www.luccasports.com/defend-jersey/By the Way you need smaller Cycling Shoes , if you can actually squeeze 2 pair of socks into your shoes ;o) )), Agree with the Gloves , had last year a similar experience where the Water was dripping through the gloves, if anyone can recommend a good glove Vendor than please let me know

Shorts and long sleeve top, be grand. Man up Bell..
This year have finally invested in some winter gear. Highly recommend merino wool base layer, best thing I've ever bought. Long legged bib tights are a bit unnecessary I think. Just use your summer ones and some cheap leggings from lidl.
Overshoes are a really good idea, I've neoprene ones which are great if a bit warm. Rain jacket is handy alright, provided its breathable. I've found the altura pocket rocket quite good and it won't break the bank.

My first sportive.... 4.5 hours on torrential rain, great fun. Apparently it sometimes rain in Connemara :-P Most of the essentials already mentioned above. I like Merrino tops as a base layer (worth shopping around), really keeps you warm plus never gets smelly! I have a soft shell gillet that works miracle. Waterproof gloves and overshoes (which you now have... wink wink) are a must. Good waterproof jacket is worth investing in, you really don't want to get soaked in Wicklow in winter. I don't think fleece lined bibs are necessary (boil in a bad effect), that said ask me in January. I prefer my 3/4 and long socks. Keep an eye on the usual suspects (Wiggle, Chainreaction, Swim cycle run, Probike kit), there are some really good deals going on!
