Hi all,
One common question people ask is "what do I get for my TI annual membership of €60??" Full list of benefits here, but I want to explain the Insurance Cover, as it's something that many people are unclear of - what am I covered for, at what events and what happens if I have an accident?
First off, you need a Race License or a Non-Race License.
- Both give you personal accident cover & 3rd party cover during training events (club organised or TI organised).
- The Race license gives you cover at TI sanctioned events (i.e. races) - over 200 events a year are, however some clubs/races do not have this TI sanction approval and thus organise their own insurance cover. So please check if you don't see the TI sanctioned note, or it's not listed on TI Events Calendar.
- The Race license also gives you cover while training on your own - the Non-Race license does not. I clarified what this meant with TI, and Orla explained: "You are covered when you are training alone, but training has to be considered training for triathlon. Therefore going for a cycle session on your own, you would be covered under TI insurance. A member who cycles to work and receives an injury, would not be covered as this would not be considered training."
Personal Accident – Features and Benefits (Included within Triathlon Ireland Membership and valid for registered members and/or Clubs Only) Personal Accident covers all registered Triathlon Ireland members of each affiliated Club (including committee members, coaches and officials) for a range of benefits payable in the event of an accidental injury during participation, including training and travelling to and from events or training sessions. Training is deemed to be official training for triathlon only. Travelling is only covered whilst as a member of an organised party under the direction of the Insured, and specifically excludes any travel by motorcycle.
