Yes. I do the LOS swims every year and I love the season! I'm not the fastest swimmer but the races are handicapped so everyone is competing. Dublin Swimming Club is open for membership; we train in similar locations to Belpark ( Seapoint, Killiney & UCD). Most of our members compete in the LOS races so there is plenty of club buzz at each event. You can download the application forms from www.dublinswimmingclub.ie and catch up with me at Seapoint Sunday/UCD Monday morning. This year you have to pre-register with LOS so it's too late for this weekend. You have to register with Swim Ireland first so if you are thinking about it now get registered soon! The first races are in Seapoint at lunchtime on Sunday.

I did my first Leinster swim yesterday in Sandycove. They did look at me a little funny initially but no problems registering (a reasonable €10) and swimming with the 'special' swim ireland membership. I swam without a wetsuit which was fine yesterday it was such a hot day! Race was well organised. A handicapped race which was interesting - having no previous history they sent me off in one of the first groups and so the faster swimmers chased us down. The washing machine of swimmers came towards the end (opposite to a triathlon!) but it was good motivation to keep pushing towards the end of the race. Overall a good experience - recommended. I wasn't very fast ~2min/100m but with handicap still finished in mid / upper part of field at the finish.

Hi - I did the Wicklow town swim on Friday. Such a great experience. Key thing was simplicity - just pay your money, get a handicap and swim. I got a 6min handicap and finished 2nd last, so think they over estimated my swimming ability. It was about 1.5km. Really enjoyable so I'll be back. I will share a brief report once I type it up. Men & women race in separate races, so you're up against people of all ages and anybody could win. Men in their 50s seem to be particularly good at handicaps - just like in golf! Attachments:
