ok I guess I have to admit it seems that I have all the symptoms of having over trained , really ever time I step up my training regime this Year I have become sick, last weekend Dunmore East Triathlon was actually a good test, one though days out there and bang I have the next head cold. I have started to read up and generla view is to take a break for a week etc, problem is I have taken already quite a few weeks break and haven't done any real serious session in ages.
Anyone has maybe some other tips how to overcome this ?

Hi Britta, I had this problem myself. Constantly tired, troubles sleeping, putting on weight blah blah What worked for me (based on some heavy research on this topic) 1) if for whatever reason you can't take a full week/two weeks off, make sure your sessions are shorter/less intense 2) sleep 3) water intake (significant game changer) 4) nutrition (this made huge difference, started to eat MORE which doesn't equal fast food!) 5) stress management 6) active recovery (yoga, walk, hike or whatever makes you feel good) 7) find something not tri related to distract you body and mind
If you want to know more, look into cortisol levels and recovery (pretty much once you stress your body beyond certain limit, recovery is the last on the list of priorities for your body)
Hope this helps a bit

I agree with Hana on all the above. I probably err too much on the "don't overdo it" side but Tri is supposed to be a bonus to daily life for most of us, so if it becomes another stressor, then the balance is wrong. I'm taking it easy for the next few weeks as well be away on holiday but hoping to walk lots, swim lots, an odd run and lots of stretching and yoga. Then hopefully when I get back I'll feel enthused enough to prepare for Caroline Kearney! Probably telling you something g you already covered, but I reckon a good multivitamin all year round is a big help for me, as well as good food. Thanks for the water reminder Hana, that's my weak point. Off to get a large glass now! So take it easy Britta, be nice to yourself for this week and hopefully you'll enjoy Boyne swim.

This happened to me too. I took a tonic for two weeks (Metatone it was called) and it really helped. Along with good night sleep and lots of water.

This is kinda the opposite but 'they' say if you're a triathlete and in a good relationship you're not training hard enough!!
