Hi Britta, I can advise either the Adidas Kanadia, Brooks Cascadia or Saucony Peregrine for a good trail runner that is good on the trails, but not a full on technical trail shoe like the Salomon Speedcross (which do have nice cushioning btw, and as much support as a trail shoe can offer if you are interested in them. They do tend to be quite narrow fitting, so you may want to consider the men's version if you have a wide foot - that's what I do in Salomons!). The Adidas Kanadia are a really nice shoe for a really decent price and lots of cushioning in the heel. The Brooks Cascadia don't have as much cushioning but they're still good in that aspect, they have a wider fit in the toe box (the Kanadia are rather narrow). The Peregrine are more towards the minimalist side but they still have decent cushioning. Their fit in terms of width is between the Kanadia and the Cascadia (I just happen to have wide feet so that's why I can give you all these details about the toebox fit ). Runners Need in Dundrum have these 3 in store so you can try them on and see which ones you like best (and then go buy them wherever you get the best price! Wiggle always has amazing sales so you can still order the shoes online, they deliver within a week. I got my first pair of trail runners, the Adidas Kanadia from them for 50€!). I hope this helps! Enjoy your race! Alex PS: If you go to Snow & Rock/Runners Need, my bf works there and he's mad into his trail so he'll be able to advise you much better than me. He's Sam, the tall lanky guy with a ponytail (dark hair).

Yeah the Kanadia are pretty cheap, even full price. All the other shoes full price would be 100€+ . My bf did Gaelforce West in Kanadia so you can trust the grip on them! However, I don't know the course at Lough Cutra but if it's mixed and includes any long portion on road, you're better off with the Brooks Kaskadia or Asics Gel Fuji (Trabucco for best cushioning) as they're not as aggressive and will be more comfortable on the road (the bf is back so I've asked him more info for you ). I have a pair of Salomon X-scream "City trail" and they're another option: enough grip in the sole, but enough cushioning to use on the road (i used them for DCT last year, they were great!). Again, available with a big discount from the Runners Need website and from Wiggle. Good luck with the shoe hunt!

PS: Let me know what you go for! Lough Cutra is on my bucket list, so I'd love to hear more about the course when you've done it!
