We have been busy organising strength and conditioning type training for the winter months. We have two options and are looking to get an idea of how many people are interested in each. We can run one of each or two classes of one depending on what people prefer.
Option 1 INJURY PREVENTION This class will be run by a physiotherapist in Rathfarnham clubhouse. The class would work on flexibility, lumbar spine and lower limb muscle strength work (including gluts activation, abdominal work etc), balance and co-ordination. It will be quite similar to a Pilates course in nature but more tailored towards triathlon.
Option 2 STRENGTH & CONDITIONING This will be run by a strength and conditioning coach in a gym in the Rathfarnham area. The focus will be on muscular endurance and will involve weights etc but will also be triathlon specific.
Please let us know which option you would prefer. It is likely both options will run on a Wednesday evening. Both options will have a maximum of 12 per class to allow for individual attention and will cost approximately €6 a class.
Thanks Valerie

I think people should go for option 2. Reason being is a lot of injury stems from not doing any specific weights programme to counteract any imbalances. So Option 2 please for me.

Sometimes weight /strength training causes the muscle imbalances whereas a low load approach focussing on muscle control rather than strength will be more effective at preventing and managing injury.

Thanks for voting everyone! We have decided to run both injury prevention and s&C. Details of both classes have just been emailed to all members and the sessions will go on sale on Tues 28 Oct at 9.30am via club website.
