Hi All,
As you might already know Arron Fox and myself will be the 2017 Club Captains. Our role is essentially to maximise results in National Competition, we will do this in a few ways:
• Organise specialist training, talks and camps to compliment the training already going on in the club
• Encourage participation by targeting a number of races as a club (more on this in the coming weeks!) and by telling you about important dates for signing up etc. for these races!
• Informing newer members about the National Series, Category 1 racing and all the various National Championships across the season so come December 2017 our members will have had a fun, competitive and enjoyable season and hopefully a few of you will be picking up some silverware are at Triathlon Ireland awards!
1. So first things first is the National Duathlon Series which kicks off next weekend in Naas. To complete the series a participant must finish three races one of which must be the National Championships in Galway on March 12th. Duathlons are a great way to get some early season racing in to help prepare for the summer ahead!
Further details on the series are available here: www.triathlonireland.com/Events/Race-Series-Details/2016/Duathlon-National-Series.html
Also, for the first time, Belpark will be hosting a race as part of this series so even more reason to get involved!!
2. Carlow Tri: Two dates to note, firstly the race itself has been moved to May 14th. Entries open at 8am on January 28th via the TI website. This race is always well attended by Belpark members (including a lot of first timers!), it’s fast, it’s part of the National Series so you can earn points for yourself and your club and it’s close to Dublin so set your alarms to enter!!
3. Camps / Special training days: Following the success of November’s swim camp with Tanja Slater it looks like we will be bringing her back in February for a 2nd round, Arron is hard at work in the background trying to firm up the details. We also hope to organise a few more camps in the meantime. If there is anything in particular you would like to see covered in the pre-season please let us know. In the past we’ve had transition training, nutrition talks, ironman talks as well as numerous other subjects covered!
4. Training Generally: As you know the club has hired two new coaches: Emmet Dunleavy for running and John Cafery for overall training structure. Conal is working hard with these guys to bring a bit more structure to clubs training. Details and some initial training information can be found in the training part of the forum. I’d strongly encourage you all to read some of the information provided by Emmet about how his training works and informing yourself about his training methods and familiarizing yourself with how slow running can make you faster! Additionally turbo is still tipping away in Rathfarnham on Thursday evening and there is still plenty of spots available if more biking is part of your new year resolutions!
In the meantime if you have any questions on the National Series, National Champs, training days and camps etc. you can contact Arron or mayself:

Me: mens.captain@belparktri.ie
For more general information on this summer’s national competitions the TI website has a good preview: www.triathlonireland.com/News/2016/2017-Super-Series-National-Series-and-National-Champs.html

Ben
