South Dublin County Sports Partnership, in cooperation with IT Tallaght, is hosting a free seminar for sports coaches of all grades on High Intensity Training next Monday, 13th February at 7.30pm in IT Tallaght.
The seminar will be given by Dr. Neil Fleming an Exercise Physiologist working in the Human Performance Laboratory in Trinity College Dublin and a former Junior World Champion in kayaking who now coaches several of the top Irish kayakers and consults high performance athletes in both the US and Europe.
High-intensity training, is a cardiovascular exercise strategy alternating short periods of intense anaerobic exercise with less intense recovery periods. The concept of the training is where one performs a short burst of high-intensity (or max-intensity) exercise followed by a brief low-intensity activity, repeatedly, until too exhausted to continue. These intense efforts typically last under 30 seconds, with times varying based on a participant's current fitness level. The exercise protocol provides improved athletic capacity and condition as well as improvements in health status for the less physically fit. The seminar will address the assessments of and the prescription of training for participants of all fitness levels.
Numbers are restricted for this seminar and interested parties are asked to book a place by contacting the Sports Partnership at info@sdcsp.ie
