With 15 of the 16 National Series races now complete and counted for in the National Series the final Rankings are beginning to take shape. This being said, nothing is confirmed and as you will read below the big prizes will come down to the wire…
Belpark have had 44 Females and 76 men score National Series points in 2017. This alone is a fantastic achievement.
Overall National Series Rankings
WOMEN
With one race to go Belparker Meave Maher McWilliams leads the women’s overall standings (692 competitors in total!). Realistically the only female mathematically capable of closing the gap is former Olympian Sinead Lynch if she chooses to race in Moby Dick in 10 days’ time.
MEN
Johnny Morris leads the way for the Belparker’s in 5th overall (out of a field of a whopping 1,780 athletes!!!). James Hoare of Piranha leads the way but there are three athletes lurking in the depths of the rankings with 356 points and only three races complete. One of these is Belparker Keving Keane. Kevin is registered for Moby Dick where he will look to put in a strong performance in his home county to be in with a shot at an overall podium place. The other two athletes are Noel Kavanagh (Wicklow TC) and Mariusz Olejniczak (Naas TC). There could be a fantastic showdown in Youghal next weekend if all three contenders show up.
Club Series
Mixed
Belpark lead the way here by a narrow 10pts over Piranha. The winning team is made up of the top 3 females and the top 3 males.
The current Standings are:
Maeve Maher McWilliams 472
Jennifer O’Sullivan 435
Helen French 418
Johnny Morris 460
Barry Cronin 449
Luke McMullan 445
With Dee McNally, Arron Fox and Kevin Keane still to close out their National Series down in Cork it is all still to play for. Additionally there has been an error with Guillermo’s points which have not been accounted for. Triathlon Ireland are looking into this at the moment.
Women
Again its Belpark with a pretty narrow lead 17pt over (again) Piranha. The top 6 athletes contribute to the club rankings, they are:
Maeve Maher McWilliams 472
Jennifer O’Sullivan 435
Helen French 418
Grainne Forde 409
Aoife Reilly 406
Donna Mahon 402
As I mentioned above, good races from Dee and Arron in Cork could add to the overall tally and secure the top spot. A strong showing from Piranha on the day is still likely meaning positions are all but secure.
Men
Piranha have a healthy cushion of 72pts over Belpark in the men’s standings.
The current contributors are:
Johnny Morris 460
Barry Cronin 449
Luke McMullan 445
Gav Stapleton 435
David Power 434
Stafford Vigors 421
Guillermo and Kevin will hope to close the deficit to Piranha at Moby Dick but it will be a monumental task to close a 72pt gap. That said, 2nd place is still a spectacular result.
Age Group
In the age group divisions five Belpark athletes currently hold podium places.
WOMEN
25-29 Jennifer O’Sullivan 2nd Place
30-34 Maeve Maher McWillams 1st
Men
25-29 Luke McMullan 1st
30-34 Johnny Morris 2nd
35-39 Barry Cronin 3rd
It’s all still to play for in the final race of the season. I look forward to giving you a complete picture in a few week’s time when the season officially concludes.
In the mean time but November 18th into your Diary for the Triathlon Ireland awards in the Gibson Hotel where the silver wear will be collected!
