Wetsuits are really only allowed on a once off so that you can aclimatise to open water swimming. You also have to be a member of swim Ireland and a member of sea swimming club leinsteropensea.ie/basics/how-to-get-involved/ . The sea swims are great, really well organised but with a relaxed atmosphere. I'd encourage anyone to give it a go and the Liffey Swim is a really special event on the Irish sporting calendar. You get used to the temperature of the water without a wetsuit after a couple of dips. Plus all the races are handicapped so everyone has a chance of winning. I'm a member of Glenalbyn Masters and would recommend them as a friendly club if anyone is thinking about it.

Johnny, is there a club that Belparkers tend to join or is it more a formality to get a SI license? Would welcome a recommendation. Cheers

There's a good few Belparkers in Dublin Swimming Club.

I picked Glenalbyn because location suited me for training but it is a bit of a formality. But worth checking to see if any clubs in your area do them. I also swim with Tallaght Masters and Templeogue have a decent club as well.
