EVENT HISTORY
The Lough Neagh Triathlon was initiated in 2001 and has quickly been established as one of the most professional and spectator friendly triathlons in Ireland. It is a fun, mass participation event catering for all abilities. The Lough Neagh Triathlon has been a huge success on all fronts in previous years. It has had the distinction of hosting the Home Nations Championships, won by England. It has hosted the Irish Triathlon Championships in 2003, 2006 and 2011. Lastly we were able to host rounds of the European International Cup in 2004 and 2005. We attracted triathletes of the quality of the present Olympic Champion Alistair Brownlee, silver medallist Javier Gomez, and the female bronze winner in London Erin Densham to Ballyronan. Staging these races has given us vast experience in event organisation, and so we pride ourselves on putting on a first class race for all those who enter.
Ballyronan Marina is a superb natural setting for Triathlon. The course is fast and flat, designed for spectators, with friends and family able to cheer on competitors at every opportunity.
For competitors the marina building has changing facilities with showers available both in the marina building and adjacent caravan park. The marina building includes a large hall well equipped for serving post race refreshments and hosting our prize giving ceremony.
The race has a title sponsor in Acti-Snack and is organised by HiElbow Triathlon Club, Mid Ulster Council, with local community input from T.A.B.B.D.A.
