I'm looking at getting a Garmin (or equivalent) watch for Christmas, but can't afford the €360 for the Forerunner 910XT unfortunately.
I have a Garmin on the bike already, so I want something mostly for running, that will give me my pace, and has HRM (as my Lidl HRM is too erratic). I am not too concerned with swimming, just so long as it's waterproof that will do. I could MAYBE stretch to the 310XT, which seems to be about €270, but even that is pushing it. Any advice? Should I look outside the Garmin range? Sharon

Hi Sharon, the 910xt starts to be on Sale nearly everywhere, since the new Model just came out, you might be able to get a real good bargain on it.Swimcyclerun had previously a good deal around, can't find it on their Website anymore but might be worth just too send a e-mail to Brian ( the shop owner ) and ask him if he can offer a good deal, he has given to Belpark already some very nice deals.

You can pick up a 310xt off Amazon or eBay for about 150 these days

I have a 310xt and it's grand for running and the bike, not great for swimming though, no pool metrics and the GPS is pretty ordinary when you wear it in your wrist in open water. I'm sure 910xt would be better, rob yeomans is the man to ask!

Thanks for all your input. I've emailed swimcyclerun to check what they have, and my husband has been instructed as to what questions to ask when he's out shopping tomorrow!

The 310xt has been superceded first by the 910xt and again the 920xt so you Deffo shouldn't be paying anywhere near €270. Pretty sure Harvey Norman are selling 910xts for 300. Good luck.

I got mine via EBay ( pretty good deal back than ), when I needed Warranty support , Garmin tried to tell me that I needed to go back to the seller. Told them a story about receiving it as a present black bla bla and no problem , Garmin traces warranty via the registered Number ( globally ) and I got my warranty replacement, so EBay is another option

Originally I got a run & bike one as I didn't think I'd be too bothered with the swimming. (Forerunner 610) As time went on though, and as I realised I'd like the quick release bike->run thing for racing, I was sorry that I didn't get the 910XT. So, I ended up getting the 910XT about 6 months later and giving the 610 to the husband. Of course I never go swimming without it.

Hi Sharon, you mention you are interested in running only as you already have a Garmin on your bike. Why don't you go for "Garmin Forerunner 15 /w Heart Rate Monitor" on SwimCycleRun? we have that discount code that takes 10% off which comes at €166.49 with free shipping.

Thanks for all the advice. Swimcyclerun said they are getting more in (at a better price) mid-January, but I'm considering getting a friend in the US to get me one via Clevertraining and bringing it over (to avoid duty).

Clever training has the 910xt for €192- www.clevertraining.com/garmin-forerunner-910xt.htmlChris, have you bought stuff like this in the Us before? Is there any reason it might not be compatible here? I'm think power supply frequency (or is it USB charged anyway) and the GPS?

No reason it wouldn't work here. You'd just end up with an American wall adapter and need to pick up a UK one here. Charging via USB would be fine. Watch has both GPS and glonass so will work pretty much anywhere.
Biggest issues are if you get it shipped to you and you get stung for duty of about €45, vat at 23% of (cost + shipping + duty) plus courier duty handling charge of about €15. It brings it very close to European prices. If it gets through though...
Also I believe that for the 920xt garmin are trying to restrict warranty claims to the the region it's purchased (read it somewhere... I'll see if I can find it again) if so might be more awkward than returning for repair to the local repair centre.

I bought things on clever training and didn't get hit for duty. Also the watch will mostly charge through the usb on your computer is imagine. Or you can charge it with you phone charger. Clever training ship world wide too. And very quick delivery 5 days or less.
